Sirapssnittar - Syrup Slices

This must be one of the most popular "fikabread", in spite of their modest appearance. This is probably due to how easy they are to make and how they complement any kind of drink. I like to keep a tin handy in case the children or grand children stop by. They are often called Toffee cookies, in Sweden, but in my mother's  recipe book they were called "Sirapssnittar"- Syrup Slices.

Ingredients:

200 g butter
1.75 dl sugar
2 tbsp syrup
2 tbsp vanilla sugar
2 tsp baking powder
5 dl flour

Method:

Set the oven to 175 - 200 degrees C (350 -390 F). Quickly mix all the ingredients together into a dough.

Split into 6 parts. Roll each bit into a rope, finger thick.

Space three ropes on each baking sheet. Flatten each a bit with your hand. Score the surface with a fork.

Bake on center rack, 12-15 minutes. Cut slightly on the bias when they come out of the oven.

Mmm enjoy!
